The most comprehensive travel grant of any O.R. conference!

Come to the AIROYoung workshop, on a budget! You just have to get on the airplane, the rest is on us:

  • Transfers from Lamezia Terme Airport (SUF) to the University.
  • Lunch on 1/March, and on 2/March, at the University canteen.
  • Social dinner on March 1.
  • Accommodation on the night of 28/February, 1/March, and 2/March at the University in-campus residence (single room with en-suite bathroom).

The grants are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until there is budget available. Upon acceptance of your request, you are required to confirm within two weeks by providing your air or train reservation. In this way we can both better organise the transfers, and we make sure that the budget is allocated to people who are actually intending to participate.

If you are planning to prolong your stay beyond the two days of the workshop, the University residence can be booked for more nights, at the price of 25 euros per night. We will be happy to help with the reservation or any other enquiry about mobility, sightseeing, etc. Just shoot an email at

The only condition for eligibility is being a member of AIRO, the Italian O.R. Association. If you attended the last ODS conference in Sorrento, then you have been automatically given a membership to AIRO. Otherwise, if you need to enroll, send a mail to Being a member of AIRO, you can also join our newsletters, receive the 4OR journal, and enjoy discounts to the association's initiatives, e.g. the next ODS annual conference which in 2018 will take place in Taormina in early September.

Further travel information

Alternative connections from Lamezia Terme Airport to UniCal

In case you arrive on a different day than the majority of other participants, or for some other reasons cannot use the provided shuttle service, here are your options for reaching UniCal from Lamezia Terme Airport.

  • Train: Trenitalia offers an hourly service from Lamezia Terme Airport to the station of Castiglione Cosentino, which is at walking distance from UniCal (15 minutes). You can also take a bus from the station to UniCal's campus. The train fare is 6.50 Euro, and the urban bus fare is 1.20 Euro.
  • Bus: There are direct bus connections from Lamezia Terme Airport to UniCal's campus, with a service operated by Autolinee Federico. The ticket can be bought directly on the bus and it costs approximately 5 Euro.
  • Shuttle: Workshop participants can benefit from a flat 20 Euros fare for a one-way shuttle ride to/from the airport, connecting them directly to UniCal's campus. The shuttle company is Top Class.

Arriving by Train

The train station closest to UniCal's campus is Castiglione Cosentino (15 minutes walking, or a few bus stops). You can check train timetables on Trenitalia's website. Another option is to take a train to Paola, and then change to a shuttle bus or a Taxi. The workshop's participants can benefit of a flat 16 Euro fare for the ride from Paola's Train Station to UniCal, with the company Top Class.

Arriving by coach

There are two options to get to UniCal by coach, coming from many other Italian cities. The first is to take a coach directly to the campus (the stop's name is Quattromiglia, 10 minutes walking to UniCal). Companies servicing this stop are Venus and Ias. The second option is to take a coach to Cosenza Autostazione, and then city bus number 136 to UniCal. Companies serving Autostazione are Simet and Lavalle.

Getting around

The campus is connected to Cosenza by many buses. The best choice is probably bus number 136, which stops in the central bus station Autostazione, located at 2 minutes walking from Corso Mazzini, the main street of Cosenza. Tickets can be bought at bars, tobacconists, ticket machines and several other shops.
